Of Clouds and Separation

16 Jun

My ten favourite songs on clouds and separation

Mid-June, the rains used to arrive in Bombay when I was a kid. The black clouds would hold the promise of change. This would mean relief from the heat and dust of the preceding summer months and a burst of new life. The dreary plain near our house would promise to turn into a pond with lots of small streams arising and emptying in it. These small streams would then become alive with small and big crabs and tadpoles! Coinciding with the arrival of the black clouds, the new school year would also arrive. This would mean new textbooks! The dark messenger would also bring the hope, that I would share the class room with my friends from last year, but at the same time also the anxiety if I would again have to spend this new school year with class bully.

These dark water-bearers of sky, who brought so many emotions in my being were and are also the bearers of hope over the centuries in India for separated lovers. The earliest mention is found in Meghduta (the cloud messenger) by Kalidasa (most probably 4th century CE). It tells the story, how a yakṣha (a supernatural being), after being exiled, asks a passing cloud to take a message to his wife. In Hindi cinema though, we find mostly women singing to the clouds. They call upon them to be their messengers, to take a message to their far-off beloveds, asking them to return back.

Sawan Ke Badalon Unse Yeh Jaa KahoRattan [1944]
MD: Naushad; Lyrics: D. N. Madhok; Singers: Zohra Bai & Karan Deewan

Naushad’s break-through film! It had a wonderful array of songs. One better than the other. There is another cloud song in it as well, which is much happier: rhum jhum barase badarwa
In this song it is the man is who is pining for his beloved and not the other way round like in the songs which we will see ahead. She consoles him saying that the separation is our destiny. He is the one who asks the clouds to go away and not to tease him. One of my all-time favourites!

Jab Kaari Badariyaa Chhaayegi – Lajawab [1950]
MD: Anil Biswas; Lyrics: Prem Dhawan; Singer: Meena Kapoor

I know next to nothing of the film. This song impressed me all the same. Here the girl asks her lover himself, for whom shall she wait when his thoughts trouble her mind in his absence. I think, she means to ask who will come and look after her, when he is not there. Lovely way of turning the tables!

Jaa Ri Jaa Ri O Kaari BadariyaAzaad [1955]
MD: C. Ramchandra; Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan; Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

She is very explicit about asking the clouds to go away. The cool rain makes her pine for her love more than ever. Even the thunder gives her heart burn. But all through his complaining the tone remains very pleasant. It is after all just a performance on the part of the girl for her hosts, amongst whom the object of her love is sitting.

Jaa Re Badara Bairi Jaa Re – Bahana [1960]
MD: Madan Mohan; Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan; Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Just like in chanda re jaa re jaa re, the lady here asks the cloud to bring a message from her beloved. She also asks him to describe her pangs of sorrow to him and also describe her love for him, so that he returns back soon. Describing her waiting as a lost effort, in the end she beseeches him to bring her lover along with him.

Ghar Aaja Ghir Aaye Badaraa SanvariyaaChhote Nawab [1961]
MD: R. D. Burman; Lyrics: Shailendra; Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

The girl here asks not the cloud but addresses her beloved directly to come back. As an incentive she offers him the pleasant weather which has arrived due to the rains. She describes her loneliness, the pitter-patter of the rain drops make her go mad. She bemoans her fate that she has to remain separated from him even in rain. Quite a sad song in an excellent debut by R. D. Burman!

Tum Bin Sajan Barase NayanGaban [1966]
MD: Shankar-Jaikishan; Lyrics: Shailendra; Singers: Lata Mangeshkar & Mohd. Rafi

Her eyes, they cry, every time it rains! The heroine here is crying for her husband who is absconding. He has lost all their belongings and is on the run. She doesn’t know anything about it and is waiting for him and wondering about the reason behind his absence.

Dar Laage Garaje Badariyaa – Ram Rajya [1967]
MD: Vasant Desai; Lyrics: Bharat Vyas; Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Left alone she feels afraid of the coming storm. The blazing lightening and the thundering clouds are just the outer symptoms of her troubled mind. She compares her crying eyes with the rain. The falling rains don’t cool her fervour for her lost beloved. She doesn’t know whom to turn to, abandoned and lonely!

Ja Re Kare Badra – Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke [1969]
MD: Laxmikant-Pyarelal; Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri; Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

She is complaining about his ignorance, that he doesn’t understand her love for him. She implores the cloud to go to him and make him understand. She has already tried all her tricks but the idiot of a man is just too dumb to understand her heart. She hopes that the black cloud would have more luck than her and awake the same feelings in him, which burn in her.

Kahan Se Aaye BadaraaChashm-e-Baddoor [1981]
MD: Rajkamal; Lyrics: Indu Jain; Singers: Yesudas & Haimanti Shukla

It is not really the clouds in the sky but those in her eyes, that she is speaking of. They are raining in form of tears that her kaajal is running with the tears. She goes onto describe the tears lining her eye-lids dropping one by one on the earth. Her sleep has departed with her paramour, causing the dreams to whither, the clouds, which bring the life usually seem to her full of poison.
I knew this song since the 80s, but it never did much to me. Thanks to Ava and a conversation with her made me realise the beauty of this song! Thank you Ava!

Phir Se Aiyo Badaraa BidesiNamkeen [1982]
MD: R. D. Burman; Lyrics: Gulzar; Singer: Asha Bhosle

She doesn’t explicitly ask the clouds to bring back her lover, but it is understood, that when the clouds come again he will be there too, for she addresses the cloud as she would be talking to him. For this favour she is ready to embroider pearls on the wings of the clouds. She asks him to fill her wrists with bangles (to marry her), she will be waiting near the pond for him. Come to my verandah, she asks him, I will decorate it when you come back. For his safe return, she would tie an amulet around his arm and put a black mark to save him from the evil eye.
Only Gulzar can spin such a magic with his words!

Enjoy the songs in a playlist here!

Great post, Harvey! There are no clouds outside – bright, hot sunshine – but I hope we’ll be seeing those dark, swollen clouds in Delhi soon. We need them!

That’s an interesting collection of songs you’ve come up with. I’d never come across the Lajawab song before, and the ones from Gaban (lovely song, that – I’ve heard it after ages) and Bahaana I’m hearing after ages. I’d completely forgotten about them.

Not only is this one of my favourite songs (not specifically addressed to clouds, but the ‘thundering’ and ‘raining’ is very obviously of the monsoon clouds), but it’s also about a saajan who hasn’t come even though the saawan has.

(garjat barjat sawan aayo re from Barsaat Ki Raat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ6Zbka84yk)

And this one is all about being lonely (also a type of separation?), and talking about the kaali ghata accentuating that loneliness:

(kaali ghata chhaye mora jiya tarsaye from Sujata: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYHGV20kP6M)

P.S. In the Azaad song, Meena Kumari is dancing for her hosts, Dilip Kumar’s foster family. 🙂

Hey Madhu! You can’t say you missed the party this time! The first one to comment!!! 🙂

Thank you Madhu, I am glad that you liked the songs!

Garjat barjat sawan aayo re is such a wonderful song! Which song from Barsaat Ki Raat is not? Love to listen to it. Today is June’s first warm day. It has been raining otherwise nearly every second day here, but the arrival of monsoon in India is a totally different feeling, not to be compared with anything else. And this song captures the feeling so perfectly. Thanks a lot for this song!

I thought about including kali ghata chaaye, but left it out since it doesn’t specify the saajan or piyaa. I absolutely love the way Asha modulates her voice here.

Thanks for the info about Azaad. I will change it!

Wish you saawan ke badal and garjat barjat sawan inDelhi soon!

Again a totally new song for me. Maybe I saw/listened to it when I was small but couldn’t recall it. Rajesh Roshan was a good music director, wasn’t he? He gave good scores in the 70s!
Thanks for reminding me of it!

Lata Mangeshkar! You know this was Kalpana Lajmi’s first movie. She is related to Shyam Benegal and Guru Dutt too and their native place is Baindoor, yes they belong to Saraswat lineage (Basroor uncle’s community). She was married to Bhupen Hazarika who was much older then her. He died few months back.

Lata Mangeshkar sounds very tired in this.
BTW Kalpana Lajmi’s first feature film was Ek Pal with Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi.

The song is very nice. The film is about marital violence, isn’t it? That puts me off.

A great post, Harvey, for another great theme.

By the way, as soon as I saw the title of this post, I thought of “Rhum Jhum Barase Badarwa,” which I think I have mentioned to you on some occasions, too. It is one of my favorite songs from one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. But “Sawan Ke Badalon Unse Yeh Jaa Kaho” is beautiful, also!

I had some difficulty thinking of appropriate songs beyond the ones that have already been recommended here (especially since I am still seriously Hindi and Urdu challenged), but here is a nice song from the Pakistani film Dupatta (1952)… It is not equally about clouds and separation, but it is very much about separation, with a nice reference to clouds in the middle. 🙂

(tum zindagi ko gham ka from Dupatta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6arGeES8Mw)

Thank you Richard for the appreciation!
                    I’m glad you liked it.

You have been very much instrumental in bringing rhum jhum barase badarwa nearer to me. Thanks for that!
sawan ke badalon and I share an old love story. It has accompanied me through my childhood, though I doubt if I saw the film as a kid.

I appreciate your searching for songs with the proper theme, but your both contributions have opened windows to the Pakistani cinema music, for which I am very grateful! Love them!

                    Thank you Richard!

Your introduction is fantastic. Took me back to the beginning of mosnsoons in INdia.

I never saw crabs in ‘instant’ ponds in our area, but toads and frogs. They kept us awake at night with their croaking.
I haven’t read the whole thing, only checked out the songs that you have listed. Will do after I have posted my choice. I’m in a great hurry to do that as it is my very favourite song, and I want to post it before anyone else does it. 😀

I hoped you would post this song, since it is you favourite! 🙂

I also had it on my list, but since it doesn’t sing of separation, I left it out.

      “*feeling sheepish at such childishness*”
Know that feeling very much! 🙂

ae kaale badal bol suits the list very much! I had totally forgotten it. So beautiful!

kaare kaare baadra was also on my list. Then I realised she is not singing of piya or separation but that her singing has pure selfish reasons and that the noise of the clouds is what disturbing her. But it is such a beautiful song! Love it!

Lovely post, Harvey. I know only a few songs from your list – which is a good thing because I learn new songs this way. 🙂 Just love that Gaban song. And of course “kahan se aaye badra” is lovely. I like the songs that Madhu has mentioned – here’s one that hasn’t been mentioned yet. It’s about separation and there’s plenty of rain, so I guess it fits the theme. 🙂

Hi. I would like to say, that is an excellent choice from Pacifist! I watched Koel, myself, without subtitles. Of course, I didn’t understand most of the dialogue, but that didn’t matter, because it is musically one of the best films I’ve ever seen (or heard). I couldn’t follow it much, but I did gather that there was a sort of Anmol Ghadi theme in there – and the little girl at the beginning apparently grows up to be the same woman, too!

Koel does seem to have gems of songs! Thanks for the song and the short synopsis Richard!
It looks as if she is pining here more for her father rather than her lover though.

This childhood love themes are interesting, aren’t they? Anmol Ghadi, Baiju Bawra, Laila Majnu! Wonder how many more?
Wouldn’t you like to do a list on this topic, Richard?

Wonder what is the reason behind their not coming together? Both seem to have done well in life. At least it looks like that, what with he wearing a silk night gown and she sparkling jewels and both of them living in beautiful bungalows.

Wonderful post, Harvey! I also miss the monsoons and the fresh look that comes over everything and the puddles and watching the people walking in the rain and children playing in the rain. Sometimes I go out of the house when there is a light rain and twirl around and pray that no one is watching – don’t want to do any dancing for fear of driving the rain away! I will post some songs afterwards, since it looks like my favorite songs have already been posted by you, Madhu and pacifist!

    Harvey ji,
A very appropriate theme indeed. As I am typing this message, there is a solid rain pouring outside, cold wind is coming in bringing with it the typical smell of the First major rain in Mumbai this year and I am enjoying songs posted by you !
The Azaad-55 song Jaa ri jaari o kaari badariya is my choice as the best from your postings. It always is a mystery to me how CR gave such wonderful songs in Azaad,in such a short period.Goes to show that for a truly gifted person, nothing is impossible.
Thank you,Harvey ji,for devising novel themes every time, giving opportunity to us to enjoy songs posted by you and others.
    Thanks once again.

I am so happy that this post came at the right time with the Bombay rains!!! The first monsoon rain is such a wonderful thing!
C.R. Ramchandra’s score for Azaad is a phenomenon in itself. Maybe the fact that the offer first went to Naushad spurred him to give his best.
Iam so glad Arunji, that you liked the post and enjoyed the songs!
      Thanks!

When I was in Jamnagar, we would run to the roof to get drenched and play in the rain. If it rained when we were returning from school, our major concern was keep our books safe. In monsoon days we carried them inside a polythene. I never minded getting drenched, rather, I loved having water dripping from my hair, making squelching noises because my shoes were wet.

When I went to Bangalore first, I was surprised to see people ducking indoors or standing under awnings, as soon as the first drop of rain fell. I loved Bangalore rain, it fell in sheets, the kind that made you gasp if you were to let it fall on you.

Now that I am working, I am not so enamoured of the rain, and hate myself for it. Lekin kya kare, going to the office in the rain, sitting around half a day in damp clothes, and probably risking a bad fall on one of the potholes is not pleasant.

I love Garjat Barsat too Madhu, its my favorite. At the moment I don’t want to listen to any sad rain songs. I just want to listen to the happy ones.

Oh that Chashm-e-baddoor song, beta, it was fun talking about it haina 🙂

Hey Ava, this is supposed to be cloud based songs, but I will take a wet Zeenie baby anyday (no pun intended) 🙂
Since Ava has opened the door for chalu 70’s rain duets, how about Jeetendra-Reena Roy, has music by RDB as well

Well there is nothing chalu about the song itself, it is rather the picturisation, isn’t it?
Somehow I always end up wishing somebody other than Jeetendra in this song. Reena is as usual good!

Your memories of Jamnagar triggered my memories of childhood in Bombay. I also used to love to get drenched in the rain. My mother used to send me directly to the bathroom for a bath if I came drenched back home. We also used to put our books in a plastic bag and then in the school bag. But I hated the squeaking of the the wet shoes and the humidity in Bombay made the fungus grow everywhere, that wasn’t pleasant.
Rain in Bangalore! I experienced it once and it gets so cold in Bangalore when it rains, as yous ay it is totally different than on the coast.
You are right, when grown-up the wetness of the clothes do pose a problem, as a kid, one just doesn’t bother oneself with such trifles. Even the sweating and all posed no problems at all. It jsut didn’t matter if one smelled or was wet!
Discussing songs or any other thing with you is always a big pleasure!
bhigi bhigi raaton me is also one of my fav rain song!
      RDB ka jaado!

Harvey, thank you for this list. The clouds and separation seem to be inextricably linked in our films, does it not? Ironically, I was sitting here and bemoaning the rains – we have had three days of continuous rains and I was beginning to feel depressed. Ironic in that I love the monsoons in India. The last time I was there was when I really experienced it after a long, long time. It was incredible!

Madhu already posted one of my favourites – Garjat barsat sawan aayo re. 🙂

From Parakh, thought it is less about asking the clouds to pass on messages, and more about how the clouds bring back memories.
(o sajana barkha bahar aayi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSEV7-CqhwI)

From Chori Chori – though it is complaining of the rain not allowing them to sleep. 🙂
    (yeh raat bhigi bhigi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vabgXc7TC-Q)

And of course, this from Manzil (I couldn’t let this pass, no?) – it’s about the wonder of falling in love and the picturisation is fantastic!

    (rhim-jhim gire saawan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcLQ7AwRAjk)

Now I’m feeling homesick for Bombay again!!

Anu, I am so glad that you liked the list!
Rains here as well are different than in India. Till yesterday it was raining here and I posted the list and it stopped raining and today we had 29°C.
Last July-Aug as I was in Bombay, I didn’t see the sun for three weeks and enjoyed the rain thoroughly in Naitonal Park, Kanheri Caves and once at Tungareshwar, where I got drenched despite the raincoat. Lovely!!!!

The Parakh song is much more of losing sleep isn’t it? Beautiful!!!! THE rain song!

The Chori Chori song is also one of my favourite! But is it about rain? It does speak of raat being bhigi but it doesn’t explicitly say it is raining. It could be jsut the wetness of the night. It speaks about the chandani, so it must be very bright, which would mean a cloudless (at least not the heavy rain-clouds) sky and as pacifist says no rain without clouds!
      What do you think?

And the Manzil song, no, you just can’t push it away and it does have badal in it!

      Bambai me Baarish!
Maybe tehy should make a film with that title! 😉

I thought I would have a lot of difficulty in finding songs that have not been added, but here are two that are well known :-
    1) Megha Chaye Aadhi Raat
    (Film: Sharmilee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEGe3TYijgY)
I have to provide a 70’s song, and this one is quite good, certainly belongs with all the great ones.
    Raakhee looks very good

    2) Nainon Mein Badra Chaye
    (Film: Mera Saaya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0UyOGFAynU&feature=related)
I cannot believe no one put this one in so far, I am lucky to be able to add it. As we had discussed before, this movie is based on the Marathi movie Pathlag that had Kashinath Ghanekar & two great songs.

    3) Since your question was — “Which are your favourite cloud songs?”, I hope I am permitted to add cloud songs that are completely orthogonal to the gist of the post. This is one so bad, it is good 😉

Megha chaye is such a beautiful song. I think SDB recycled an old tune of his. I remember listening to a Bangla song, with the same tune inhis voice.
naino me badraa chahe is a cloud song and sort of a separation (maybe of a few cm.) as well and with Madan Mohan’s magic woven in it! GREAT!
Mera Saaya had such a good score!!!!

As the honorary Marathi member of the family, you are of course allowed to post dhaga la lagali kal
You know when I was small everybody would hint at the double meaning of the song, but I never understood it! 😦
      Thanks for the songs, Samir!

Beautiful post and a great selection of songs starting from Sawan ke badalo to Ja re badara bairi ja to Dar lage to Ghar aa ja ghir aayi to Kahan se aye badara – all my great favourites.

You started with Meghdoot story. It happens there was also a film on this theme Meghdoot (1945), starring Leela Desai, Sahu Modak, Wasti etc in which the legendary Jagmohan, famous for his non-film songs, sang a clouds and separation song, which could have been most befitting for your post:

O varsha ke pahle badal mera sandesa le jana by Jagmohan in Meghdoot, lyrics FaiyazHashmi, music Kamal Dasgupta

Thank you AK for this valuable video. I didn’t evne think of searching for a film with the name of Meghdoot.
You have made a real valuable contribution here with this song. It fits in here perfectly. The song is so beautiful and summarizes the poem Meghdoot so succinctly!
Jagmohan has that deep voice so suiting a yaksha. And many thanks to my vision 22 for providing the suitable visuals to it.
Jee khush kar diya tumne AK!
      I’m listening to it again!
      Thanks again!

If you open the floodgates to ‘cloud’ songs, you would have a downpour. So keeping myself to your theme of ‘clouds and separation’, here is a beautiful Madan Mohan composition, sung by who else but Lata Mangeshkar. It is surprising it has not so far been posted. The moon emerging from the clouds aggravates the pain of separation, reflected in the pathos of this song beseeching the ‘pardesi piya’ to come back home. – AK

badli se nikla hai chaand is indeed a beautiful composition! Another Lata-MM combination!
        Beautiful!
Others might not have thought of this song because it is much more of a moon song rather than rain clouds. Nonetheless a masterpiece.

After leaving India for grad school in the US, the first time it rained heavily it was EXACTLY like the monsoons back home. To keep from wailing from sheer homesickness, I bunked class, made my dear American friend do the same – she couldn’t understand why we had to celebrate the RAINS which I had to explain to her while she made no-bake cheesecake that I gorged on. It helped 🙂 But it was some time before she stopped talking about it to others – how this crazy Indian girl bunked class to savor the rains 🙂

Here’s one song, not about ‘megh’ and ‘biraha’ but imploring for the ‘megh’ that brings the rains – heartland India knows the misery its absence can cause. It’s “Allah megh de” from one of my favorite films ‘Palkon ki chhaon mein’, L-P’s music, Gulzar’s lyrics and Kishore with someone else singing a lovely interlude whom I haven’t been able to identify.

As usual, thanks for the lovely post Harvey.

That is such a lovely anecdote, Suhan!
Bunking school for rains! That is something!
And with such a lovely ending: the cheesecake! 😉

That song allah megh de is cute. I always used to wonder as a kid what guddaani means. I used to wonder if it has anything to do with gudd (jaggery).
I think the other male singer is Narendra Chanchal. It atleast sounds like him. You know the one from yaara o yaara ishq ne maara

Am hearing it after years, and seeing AB of the 70s is in it, young, delish, intense, soo good looking – oh shallow me :-), I shall revisit ‘Benaam’ this Sunday afternoon. Thanks!

No, it is not at all shallow to if you find the 70s Amitabh delectable because of his good looks, after all you can’t check in the films if he has a good character! 😉 And who would like to read his blood sugar levels?

          Happy Benaam watching!
The only thing I remember of Benaam is sex-hungry Amitabh, who is all the time making passes at his wife. See how shallow I am!

      Suhan ji

I am not very sure about this fact, but the uncredited, unidentified voice is, voice of Shahid Bijnori, who also lip synced this song(as a Blind faqeer)in the movie “Palkon ki Chhaaon mein”.

I think he specialised in writing qawwali(or sufi??) type of songs and sung them too in Hindi movies. I have heard his name in famous hindi movie song concerts & orchestra programmed( of famous music directors,) as a performer. He must be a lyricist cum singer. This is purely my guess work gathered through my reading and listening to the radio programmes.

Suresh Wadkar is a good singer indeed!
wonder how Rafi or Manna Dey would have rendered it! I know one just shouldn’t compare artistes, but just curious!

As Shammi Kapoor aptly put it in “Kashmir Ki Kali” (1964), the clouds must have gone crazy in Bangalore. They hover over us for so many hours and all they have to show for their presence is a few drops of water. It was at least like that this morning…..

Thanks as always, Harvey, for such a wonderful post. There have been a heavy downpour of comments too and I for one is sure enjoying this to the hilt. Kaash Samose aur Pakode par bhi itne gaane hote What’s a rain without those?

The rains in Bangalore are DIFFERENT!
I amso glad that you liked it as well.
I’m also totally for songs on samose and pakodes, they are really a negelcted lot as far as hindi film songs are concerned!
But that will be a rant for another day! 🙂

Well it reminds of school, schools re-open during the rains and believe me the thought of school and exams still gives me nightmares. 2)Baadlon ke bahaane I want to introduce 2 melodious songs of Aastha(in the prison of spring)1997
If you haven`t heard those gems, please listen to those two songs:
    Singer:Sreeradha Bannerjee:Music by Sharang Dev(Pandit Jasraaj ji`s son)Directed by Basu Bhattacharya
a))no baadal, but saawan is there in this song:
(tan pe chubthi kaanch ki boonde: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s52cyj3Xrs)

b)According to me,this is the best song of the movie(music, voice, lyrics are 1st class, not visuals):
    (labon se chum lo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcOZqFxZAos)
I am providing only the audio link(in between Gulzar ji recites some poetic lines).Because Video clip of the song contains some intimate scenes between Rekhaji and Om puriji.

I hope you don`t mind for this melodious distraction.

Satya has such a good score! Only Gulzar can write such lyrics!
      baadalo se kaat kaat ke
      kaagazo pe naam jodanaa
      doriyo se baandh baandh ke
      raat bhar chaand todanaa
      ye mujhe kya ho gayaa

I like the songs of Aastha as well. I’ve it on CD with the score from Libaas. Gulzar’s lyrics are splendid and so it the music by Sharangdev!

This song has been deleted from the movie,But its superbly sung by Suresh Wadkar,Asha Bhosle
Music by South Music Maestro Illaiya Raja
    Lyrics:Farukh kaiser
Movie:Mahadev(1987)(Ths movie is a big bore and all the other beautiful songs sung by Asha Bhosle(2 songs are there by Asha ji-Directed wasted the 2 beautiful songs and picturised partially unimaginatively.
Telll me how`s the song and Please listen other seductive songs of ashaji from this movie???

      (contd…)
Lot`s of typing mistakes. Again Sorry for that
What I mean to say Director wasted the 2 melodious songs.

      and
c)Maine bhoole se jiss din chhoo liya, to hogi paani paani
      (Sung by S.P.Balasubramaniam, Anuradha Paudhwal
-picturised on Vinod Khanna, Meenakshi Sheshadri-only one sanza was picturised)

One trivia about the music of this movie:
At that time A.R.Rehman used to assist Illaiyaraaja in Music Direction. So I think A.R.Rehman also contributed for the musical score of this movie. They did have a high expectation about the success of above musical compositions. But along with Movie`s ill fate, the music also got dumped.

Then again the music industry baron Gulshan kumar`s(with whom the music rights of the Mahadev songs are) dicision (“to not publicising Asha bhosle & Lata mangeshkar songs”,) also played a major role in the success quotient of the above songs.

That was a good recommendation, Prakashji! Well which of your recommendation has not been good?
Thanks to you I am discovering lots of new old songs.
I knew Illayaraja mostly from Sadma. His talent dazzled me there and I always thought what a pity that there is no original score for a Hindi film from him.
        A. R. Rehman must surely have contributed much to the score of the film.
I didn’t know that the rights were with T-Series and thus led to the subjugation of the songs of this film.
Thanks a lot for these songs.
I couldn’t find them all right away on you tube but then went thorugh the different episodes of the film there and thus could find them.
