Happy 3rd Birthday to My Blog and a Quiz

24 Apr

How time flies! I have a feeling that the last quiz was some two months ago and in fact a year has passed since and my nanha munha blog is already three years old. Happy Birthday my dear harveypam blog. You have given me many moments of pleasure and have always been an outlet for my creative energy. More than that, lots of thanks goes to the readers of this blog and the commentators, who have always encouraged me and sent me many songs, which were new for me. The comments also provided me with information, which I didn’t have before. Besides info and songs, it was always fun to communicate with you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Happy Birthday
I have already written about the blog’s past history and the form it has taken now. And this quiz has a lot to do with it. This quiz-pattern isn’t my invention. Some Hindi-Filmi-Sangeet deewane had been practising it on the discussion forum rec.music.indian.misc. (RMIM) for a long long time. Here is an example. Since few years it has been abandoned.
PLEASE SEND THE ANSWERS TO THE QUIZ TO
h a r v e y b l o g (a) h o t m a i l dot c o m
PLEASE DON’T POST THEM IN THE COMMENTS SECTION.

This is how the quiz works. The aim is to recognise the song from its antara.
Here is an antara of a song:
main tumhari daasi janam ki pyaasi
tumhi ho mera shringar pritam
tumhari raste ki dhuul le kar
main maang apni sada bharungi
Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam - Na Jaao Saiyan

Then comes the clue:
Asking the beloved not to go with the threat of breaking into tears is an old trick known to the master, his wife, his slave and also the fish.

If you already know this antara (which I think you will), you know which song I mean. If you don’t, then ‘Asking the beloved not to go with the threat of breaking into tears provides you the clue to the mukhda of the song na jaao saiyan chhuda ke baiyan, kasam tumhari main ro padungi.
The words ‘the master, his wife, his slave’ gives the clue to the title of the film Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam.
The word fish is clue to the actress on whom the song is filmed, Meena Kumari. Meena in Sanskrit means a fish.

For correctly guessing the song and naming it, in this case: na jaao saiyan chhuda ke baiyan you get five points and further points for naming the name of the film, music director, playback singer(s), lyricists, actor(s)/actress(es) on whom the song is filmed and recognising the three clues.

na jaao saiyan chhuda ke baiyan…………………………………….5 points
Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam………………………………………………….1 point
Music Director: Hemant Kumar……………………………………….1 point
Playback singer: Geeta Dutt…………………………………………..1 point
Lyricist: Shakeel Badayuni…………………………………………….1 point
Filmed on: Meena Kumari………………………………………….1 point
Recognising all the three clues and explaining them…………….3 points

And if you can answer why particularly the songs below were chosen for this post, you get extra 20 points.
So totally you can win 150 points

Unlike the last quiz, this quiz has songs, which are generally known by old Hindi film song lovers. I know that the term ‘generally known’ is not easily applicable. I myself didn’t know the ‘allegedly’ famous song dilruba dil pe tu from Rajkumar [1964]. The screen shots shown ARE from the videos of the songs. Except for one, the lyrics of all the songs are to be found on Atul’s Song A Day.

If it is okay with you, I will post a list of the persons who participated and their score with the results on 6th of May 2013.

I was able to figure out 7 on the first go. Not bad eh? Thank god for paying attn to the entire song, and not just the opening lines 😀

The quiz is just right. Mushkil enough. Esp that you have set us the task to find out everything about the song, for the greed of wanting more marks.

I will work more on it in the evening and send you my responses.

    tada.

I must admit that for some of the songs, I was very hint-dependent.

Happy Birthday to your blog. I know all the answers, I knew them on first reading, you see I am so great that I will not participate in the quiz, after all shouldn’t I give the others a chance? HA!HA!
Don’t tell me you actually believed all that I mentioned above? Barring one (it was so obvious) I hardly have the time to break my head over the others. I am involved in some activity as a result I have not been able to start on my own blog posts. So what is the harm in dreaming that had I worked on it I would have got all of them. Like my father used to say,”there is no harm in dreaming, you do not have to pay income tax on it”. Well then all the best to you and your blog.—Shilpi

I really believed you! In fact, I don’t believe the second part! 🙂
I will accept the first statement as the truth!
As you and your father say, there is no harm in dreaming…!

Dear Shilpi, as I have told others this quiz is for having fun and not having stress. You can come and have a look at it any time, when you have some spare time on hand and would like to task your little grey cells.

It is all okay, if you don’t participate.

Wish you all the best with your work!

Happy Birthday to the Blog!! 🙂 It is a very interesting quiz, I got 4 while reading the post. the 3 and 10 were the toughest.Sending the answers (of all) now. No.10 must be first of its kind. Is it?

      Thank you Chris!
No the no. 10 is not first of its kind. Remember Aan? And also Chitralekha [1941]!

Heartiest congratulations! Many happy returns of the day.

I have posted my answers to the quiz. Since you have not mentined any do’s or don’ts, I took it as a take-home exam with full access to any source. I hope that is fair, and I do not lose any marks for that.

In a class room examination without books, I would have got not more than 50%, so the quiz is not easy at all. The charm lies in your excellent clues. Keep on quizzing, and if theare are any regulations on cheating please let us know.

Thank you AK! Thanks for the appreciation!

Remember this is a quiz and not the final exams. Main aim is to have fun! So you can use any sources you like. The only rule is don’t stress yourself. Aur tenshan nahin leneka, kya? Haan! 😉

So you are the same Shalini! I remember your witty and knowledgeable contributions and comments there. I came at the end phase of it.
      Thank you Shalini! So glad…!
I still go through the old quizzes (is that a word?). And since I have a rotten memory it is still much fun solving them. Although with youtube, giitaayan and atul’s songs, one has much more sources at hand than during those days!

Heh, thanks! 😀 I’ve been pondering over the answers real hard during class, and today I burst out during Science saying, “OH I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I KNOW WHAT THE WISH IS!” I’m kinda surprised my teacher didn’t thrown me out on my ear.

          Great!
Well, your teacher must be used to your outbursts by now. She must have just thought “Oh, Sasha! Business as usual.”
          😉

Okayyyy! I managed to type up the answers today, after a hectic weekend – two pujas, a bhajan session, visits with two families (took banana muffins to one and oats upma kozhukattais – look them up if you want to know what I am talking about – and tomato onion chutney to the other family), saw a movie (pure, raw violence – Django unchained – couldn’t bear to look at the screen half the time), did two loads of laundry, and am typing this late on Sunday night! See, don’t I deserve extra credit?
